For US finance and IT leads, which team should move to NetSuite Next first and how to run the first month.
Last reviewed: 6 November 2026. Product details reflect this review date. Availability and behavior can vary by account, role and release.
Run your NetSuite Next rollout one team at a time, and let finance go first. Finance works to a monthly close, so you get a fixed test window, and its people already check numbers against saved searches and reports. The new AI tools for close and variance work also land with them first. Sales and warehouse teams can follow.
NetSuite Next is the redesigned NetSuite experience with AI built in, running on the same account, data, roles and customizations you use today. There is no data migration and no reimplementation. Oracle began rolling it out with the 2026.2 release, for customers in the United States and Canada.
At its center is Ask Oracle, an assistant you talk to in plain language. A controller can ask for a list of vendor bills waiting for approval, build a quick report or jump to a record without hunting through menus.
What does not change matters just as much. Your chart of accounts, approval workflows, saved searches and role permissions stay exactly as they are. NetSuite Next uses the permissions of the role a person is signed in with, so nobody sees more than they did yesterday.
Your administrator controls who gets it. After your account moves to 2026.2, eligible accounts show a banner to the administrator. It offers three choices: request a preview account, set up Ask Oracle in the current experience, or turn on NetSuite Next in production. Access is then set role by role, with three settings:
| Setting | What users see |
|---|---|
| NetSuite Next only | The new experience from their next login |
| Optional | A switch between the current experience and NetSuite Next |
| No access | The current experience only |
If two people on your team see different screens, our guide to who can access NetSuite Next explains why. Oracle's NetSuite Next FAQ has the current details.
In my view, finance is the best first team for four reasons.
Finance repeats the same tasks every month. Reconciliations, accruals, the flux review and the AR aging all come around again in four weeks. You can compare one close in the current experience with the next close in NetSuite Next, task by task.
Accountants do not accept an answer because it looks tidy. They tie it back to a saved search, a report or a journal. That habit is exactly what you want while a team learns a new assistant. Our guide to asking Ask Oracle clear questions shows how to check an answer before you use it.
The 2026.2 release added an AI transaction matching assistant and Intelligent Flux Analysis, which explains why account balances moved between periods. At SuiteWorld in October 2026, Oracle introduced more than 45 SuiteSkills, including skills that explain variances and find what is holding up the close. Oracle says these are available in every market where NetSuite Next is available. If your team already runs a monthly flux analysis in NetSuite, it will feel the difference quickly.
In most growing companies, finance means a handful of roles and a modest number of users. A problem stays contained, and the fix is quick to share.
There is a quieter benefit too. Once the controller trusts NetSuite Next, the rest of the business hears that from someone they believe.
Here is the plan I would use for a US company on a calendar month close.
Keep the test away from close week itself. People under deadline pressure will fall back on old habits, and that tells you nothing.
Some teams should wait, and a few roles cannot switch at all.
Customer Center, Vendor Center, Employee Center, Partner Center and Advanced Partner Center roles are not eligible for NetSuite Next. Your portals keep working as they do today.
Sales and warehouse teams can follow once finance has a short playbook. Those teams have more users and more daily volume. A month of finance learning gives them tested questions, known gaps and a person to ask.
Watch the calendar as well. If your fiscal year ends on 31 December, I would finish the finance switch by mid December. Otherwise, wait until the year end close and Form 1099-NEC filing are done in late January.
If your NetSuite project has not gone live yet, get live first. Our worked example of a NetSuite implementation rescue in Australia shows how one stalled project was reset. The same steps apply to US projects.
My suggestion for this week is simple. Ask your administrator whether the banner has appeared. If it has, book a 30 minute call with your controller to choose the first two roles and the ten monthly questions.
At CuriousRubik, we help teams adopt new NetSuite features without disrupting the close. Our NetSuite training team can plan your NetSuite Next rollout by role, coach your finance users and build the question list with them. See how we support NetSuite customers in the United States.
